Quick Start to Social Media for your Business

I found a great video on youtube in regards to Social Media Marketing in 3 minutes. Its a quick overview on how social media can help your business marketing. It could be a great video to show someone at your company who may be heistatant about entering the world of social media for your business.
How many of your company's are using Social Media? If yes, what are you doing? If no, do you see your company pursuing Social Media in the future?
Just this year my company started a Social Media Marketing campaign via youtube and facebook and so far the response has been good. From my experience it takes alot of training and time to get your employees on board the new approach. As managers I think we have embraced the idea, but now we are faced with the task of educating our employees and implementing the correct strategies. If you were to start using social media at your company what tools would you use to get started?

Its a short 3 minute video.

  1. We use social media extensively. Although I do not know the details.. we are on facebook, myspace, twitter, and if you google "beauty schools" we are the first few results that pop-up and link you back to our homepage. It is pretty amazing how much money is spent on it.

I was actually speaking with a coworker today who works in Marketing and discussing our advertising. He said that as much as people think TV ads are dead, they are not. It is a matter of knowing what channel and what time to advertise. He also said that when our ads pop-up on the "sponsored links" section of google, and someone clicks on the site, it is costing us money each time (I had no idea!). Right now they are trying to figure out a way to cut down costs because people are clicking on those links and filling in their information more than once and in turn, costing us more money for only one prospective student.

  2. We also use social media, more specifically Facebook and a wellness blog. To date the activity looks sporadic. The posting on Facebook are mainly from employees in the company and repostings of news releases that appeared elsewhere.

Just coming off of a week's vacation I can relate to Marie's comment posting. Daytime TV is a different animal than prime time. I did notice an ad for her company mid day, but I don't know that I've seen one in the evening. I could see how they are targeting a certain population.

We also tried to climb the Google ladder through the subscription search services. I too was amazed at the cost. We were trying to launch on online store offerring products to assist the disabled. Unforetunately the business following did not develop, and we had to discontinue the search services due to the expense.

I wouldn't disregard search services and Facebook as valid avenues in reaching customers, I just believe it has to fit the size and abilities of the organization. In the case of our online store launch I think it was a huge risk spending so much money in hopes that there would be a windfall of customers.
